The seat of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire Schools Edition comes with the following modules:

- NC Sheet metal
- CAM Lite (Expert Machinist)
- CAE Lite (Mechanica)
Besides the primary Solid Modeling, Surface Modeling, Assembly & Drafting [both associative & unassociative] functions present in all software.

Autodesk too similarly allows students the use of all their software - completely free of cost. You need to sign-up with the Autodesk Education Community after which you can choose from the various softwares developed by them, download & use for a 13-month period completely free of cost and completely legally.
However, a BIG downer with the Autodesk offer is the need to install all the software through an online installer - a near mission impossible, considering the large installation file size and the pathetic Internet speed an average Indian undergrad Engineer, studying in a U-U-Coffee institute, has access to.
If a free AutoCAD-compatible Drafting software you are looking for, then you must give ProgeCAD Smart a try. Had used it for nearly the whole of last semester, & there was absolutely no time wasted learning the software. This is because it is completely compatible with AutoCAD - its interface [AutoCAD's pre-ribbon days], its commands, everything about it felt the same as using AutoCAD. The best part of it was that all of AutoCAD commands work the same way in ProgeCAD - power-user in AutoCAD draw using commands; no toolbars & icons for them. It can also open all files made in all versions of AutoCAD up to AutoCAD 2009.
A minor hindrance, though a non-issue for students using it to complete assignments, is that since it also has a commercial version of the software, any attempt to plot drawings from ProgeCAD will cause a small message to be added on one edge of the plot saying that it was printed with the free version of ProgeCAD any commercial use of the software is prohibited.

ReplyDeleteYes you can use ProgeCAD as an alternative to AutoCAD - its latest versions supported drawings made in all AutoCAD versions upto AutoCAD 2007, its interface is lso just like that of AutoCAD, before it switched to the ribbon-like interface. It is also compatible with with all of AutoCAD commands. Should give it a try if you need to

how to download proe software
DeleteHi Friends, IntelliCAD, ProdgeCAD, are old versions of AutoCAD like 2000 or 2004. As after some years for launching new version company donates previous version to their sister concerns. Hence few changes are done for protecting originaty so IntelliCAD is same as that of AutoCAD.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I did not know that. So does that mean the ltest version of ProgeCAD Smart that reads AutoCAD 2009 file is actually AutoCad 2009 itself. Quite a new software to donate, i think. Also ProgeCAD dopesn't have the ribbon interface present in AutoCAD since AutoCAD 2005/6
