Hindustan Aeronautics Limited [HAL], that is license producing these British-origin BAE aircrafts in India, flight-tested the first airframe meant for the Indian Navy on the 11th, that lasted more than an hour. The Naval air station in Visakhapatnam, INS Dega, is expected to be home to these trainer aircraft that are being acquired to replace the indigenously developed HAL Kiran Mark. II aircrafts, in current use.

A foreign import to replace a product borne out of an indigenous programme, to be built by the very same entity that undertook the indigenous effort - doesn't say too many good things about that entity or its Project Cycle management.
