India To Construct Semi-Underground Air Defence Installation At Its Airbase Bordering Tibet

Unperturbed by China's recent belligerence, India appears set to proceed with its much-needed/delayed plans of upgrading its infrastructures along its border with Tibet.

The Indian Air Force [IAF] recently issued a notice, seeking responders, to award a contract for the construction of a partially underground control station for its Air Defence units. To be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 7 Crores INR [~$1.23 million USD], the installation is expected to be up and ready in around 2 years. This notice in question had been issued for the construction of the facility at its Airbase at Leh, in the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir, region that the Chinese claim as its own.

This is yet another reiteration of the fact that, despite Chinese shenanigans & India's apparent tactical concessions1, it is no mood to back-track or slow down its larger, strategic, multi-billion dollar plans of building up capabilities on its borders, strengthening its defences to thwart any future adventurism, while also exercising its writ over its territorial extent - a positive development.

"India did pull down a tin-shed it had started constructing at Chumar close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to arrive at an understanding with China to end the face-off between the forces of the two countries in Ladakh on Sunday night, sources said today.

The construction of the tin-shed was undertaken by India on April 18, after the Chinese incursion was noticed on April 15 in the Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) Sector."
