IAF's First C-17 'Globemaster III' Transport Aircraft Set To Arrive Home Soon

The first of these Boeing-built heavy-lift aircraft took off from from the U.S. this Tuesday & is expected to reach India on June 17.

Its been quite a quick, & a smooth journey, so far, this, from the signing of the contract in 2011 for 10 of these behemoths, to first being spotted in the open, construction complete last December, followed by its maiden flight to begin undergoing flight tests & evaluation since January, that preceded this particular milestone. Boeing is expected to deliver 4 more of these this year, with the remaining orders being executed next year, in 2014. A much need capability & capacity upgrade for the Indian Air Force [IAF]. A beautiful, hi-res picture of the bird, seen taking-off - wallpaper worthy!
